EDINBURGH band Missing Cat weren’t officially part of the Blues Weekend line up but that didn’t stop them winning some new fans in Orkney last weekend.
Paul Montague on vocals and harmonica, Gav Jack on guitar, Keith Scott on bass and Kenny Miller on drums performed in the Ferry Inn in Stromness on Saturday and Sunday, and in the Motorhoose in Kirkwall on Saturday night.
They powered through blues and rock classics such as I Put a Spell on You, Break on Through (To the Other Side), Boom Boom, Got My Mojo Working, Paint it Black, Season of the Witch and Smokestack Lightning.
Their full on performances were lively, fun and full of the blues. And their energy certainly seemed to rub off on their audiences, who weren’t shy about getting up to dance.
Paul explained that they had approached the Blues Weekend committee to play at the festival but weren’t selected – so they decided to come anyway!
And the band were pleased they did, slotting in nicely around the other acts and filling the few gaps in the weekend’s programme.
He said: “It’s been brilliant, we’ve had good fun, got very drunk and enjoyed ourselves. There’s some lovely people floating around, we feel very accepted. I just wish we’d had time to see more of the other bands.”
“The crowds have been very warm, we’ve not had any problems,” said Tam Ferguson, who managed the group’s mini tour of Scotland.
As if a weekend of gigs in Orkney wasn’t enough, Missing Cat were heading south on Monday to play in Ullapool and Inverness on their way back home to Edinburgh.
