BWB definitely have no shortage of attitude

BWB’S full title is Blues With Balls – and a very apt name it is too I can confidently say after seeing them perform in the Stromness Hotel on Sunday evening.
Their singer, Sinclair Bremner aka ‘Sink’, was one of the most energetic and enigmatic frontmen I saw during the whole weekend. Constantly moving, he was fun to watch and injected a real sense of excitement into his act.
And the rest of the group were no less accomplished: John Pettigrew was amazing on guitar, as was Billy Eunson on Bass, Johnny Foulis on drums and Kenny Swinney on keyboards and acoustic guitar.
Their repertoire included ‘Need Your Love So Bad’ – a slightly slower number which Sink claimed was a rest but during which he didn’t show any less energy – ‘In The Midnight Hour’ and a very original cover of ‘I Just Want To Make Love to You’.
BWB also played a couple of numbers by Joe Bonamassa, and a couple of songs by ZZ Top: ‘A Fool For Your Stockings’ and ‘Tush’.
At one point during this last song, Sink got so carried away with his performance that he knocked the microphone out of the stand and onto the floor, and a drumstick also ended up getting broken…
Overall, they had a lot of passion and really looked as if they were having a great time on stage – an infectious enthusiasm that passed on to the audience.
After the show, Sink told Orkney that he and Kenny only recently joined the remnants of Mean Business and the new group only had five rehearsals before playing at this year’s Blues Weekend.
“We’re having fun!” he said. “Four gigs in three days takes it out of you, but we’ve had a great time.”
He added that the Royal have asked them to come back and play next month, so if you didn’t catch them over the weekend watch out for them there!
