KEYBOARD player Angus Macdonald Rose (pictured left) had more than one special reason for visiting Orkney for the Blues Weekend.
For Angus who plays with Stevey Hay and the Rayvons has a family connection with the county as his late grandfather John Macdonald Rose was a minister at St Magnus Cathedral.
“This is my first visit to Orkney so I was really pleased to visit the cathedral and see my grandfather’s name,” said Angus, 37.
“I was aware through my family that my grandfather was here so always hoped to come here one day. He was at the cathedral from 1957 to about 1962. He also made top quality violins.”
Angus grew up in Perth but emigrated with his parents to Johannesburg, South Africa in 1982. He started playing music aged seven, had two years of classical training after school followed by a successful career in music in Africa.
He made his first album in 1988 and his funk-rock band The Electric Petals were number one in South Africa.
This year he returned to Scotland and is living in Edinburgh. He joined Stevey Hay and the Rayvons almost immediately.
